The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System AIA/CES Registered Provider Program Summary Handout Provider: Huber Engineered Woods LLC Program#: HEW502 Program: Air, Water & Moisture Management in Light Commercial Building Envelopes Length: 1-hour Credits: 1-HSW
Learning Unit Description: A study of how air leakage affects thermal performance and how moisture is managed in typical light commercial construction.
Study focuses on roof and wall applications. Also includes discussion about some of the shortcomings of traditional methods and introduces alternative solutions of protecting the structure from air and moisture intrusion.
Learning Objectives: At the end of the program, participants should be able to identify the benefits of air and water-resistive barriers. Participants will recognize how wall systems are susceptible to vapor and liquid water intrusion and understand how to protect the structure from it. Also, participants will be able to identify alternative methods for managing air and moisture in light commercial construction to avoid today’s most common pitfalls.
How Taught: The CES facilitator utilizes PowerPoint, handouts, and product samples to provide an in-depth overview of what a designer should consider when moisture barrier systems.
Target Audience: Designers and specifiers of wood-framed structures. A minimal amount of construction knowledge is recommended. Facilitator Qualifications: All HEW presenters are trained in AIA/CES guidelines. Cost: There is no cost to attend this program.
